    • His baptism has not been found. His age at burial (47 in October 1818) puts his birth about 1771. Baptisms checked:
      - Great Burstead, 22 Mar 1772, son of William and Elizabeth Wright: ruled out. That child was buried there on 29 Jun 1772.
      - Aveley, 19 Aug 1770, son of William and Elizabeth Wright: ruled out. “William Wright, an Infant” was buried there on 22 Aug 1770.
      - Aveley, 21 May 1775, son of William and Elizabeth Wright: probably ruled out. “John and William Wright” were buried there together on 18 Nov 1778.
      - Nevendon, 1 May 1774, son of William and Elizabeth Wright: probably ruled out. He seems to be the William Wright who married Ann Barnes at Wickford in 1798 and had children baptised at Nevendon from 1798 to 1809.
      - South Weald, born 17 Aug 1769 and baptised 4 Sep 1769, son of William and Elisabeth Wright: still possible. He would have been 49, not 47, in 1818, and a William Wright buried at South Weald on 23 Aug 1778 may be him. South Weald is about 10 miles north-west of Horndon on the Hill, and no record yet links the two.
      - Horndon on the Hill: no Wright baptism between January 1767 and March 1773.
      An Anne Wright was buried at Horndon on the Hill on 4 Apr 1781; her relationship to him, if any, is unknown.
