    • Parentage is not proven by any record. The identification with John, son of Edmund and Ann Gentry, born 27 Apr 1785 and baptised at Bocking on 29 May 1785, follows Greg Lewin’s analysis in “Who was Amelia Gentry’s Grandad?” (https://greglewin.co.uk/fh/Gentry.php). Two other Bocking Johns fit: born 27 Nov 1785 to Timothy and Ann, and born 16 Aug 1787 to Joseph and Esther. Edmund is favoured because John named his youngest son Edmund, an Edmund Gentry of Billericay was buried at Great Burstead in 1824, and Abraham Gentry of Billericay was probably Edmund and Ann’s son. Age 81 at burial on 5 Oct 1865 and in the GRO death index; census ages give birth years from 1781 to 1788. [15]
