    • Identified as the son Thomas in the 1771 will of Thomas Nicholls of Abbots Roothing, which leaves the testator’s freehold there to “my Grandson Thomas Nicholls (Son of my Son Thomas Nicholls)”. That grandson is Thomas Nicholls of Chigwell, who held the Abbess Roding freehold in 1819 with his cousin Sarah Mills living with him; his will names his brothers John, James and George and “my late Sister Mary Kirkham”, the children baptised at Epping to Thomas and Mary Nichols.
